Project Spotlight: ATL Airport Deicing Facility

ree

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport – Atlanta, GA

Airside safety and winter preparedness are critical at any major airport—but especially at the world’s busiest. When Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) embarked on a major expansion of its aircraft deicing infrastructure, Abbie Jones Consulting was honored to support this effort with precise, field-ready civil engineering deliverables.

Our work contributed to a multi-phase deicing facility expansion that improves aircraft turnaround time, mitigates delays, and enhances airfield safety during cold weather operations. Deicing is a vital—but often unseen—component of airport functionality, and this project spotlight showcases how infrastructure beneath the surface can have sky-high impact.

✏️ Scope of Work

·       Site layout and grading support for deicing pads

·       Utility staking and layout for drainage systems

·       Coordination with airside contractors and airport officials

·       Technical deliverables designed to support tight construction phasing

🌐 Engineering for Operational Efficiency

This project demanded a deep understanding of airfield logistics, environmental considerations, and FAA coordination. Deicing runoff, glycol containment, and stormwater management required precise planning and thoughtful execution.

AJC’s ability to collaborate with airport engineers, general contractors, and environmental stakeholders helped ensure this complex facility was delivered in a way that supports ATL’s long-term goals: safety, sustainability, and seamless winter operations.
